 The Wellness Coalition joined the worldwide celebration of Global Youth Service Day - an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning - on April 23, 24 and 25.
Global Youth Service Day mobilizes youth to identify the needs of their community. Organizations participate by providing opportunities for youth engagement. "Youth are our greatest natural resource" said Sam Feehan, AmeriCorps member and participant in Silver City's Global Youth Service Day. "Through art, we raised awareness of recyclable materials and had fun - all at the same time."
"We were proud to be a part of world-wide Global Youth Service Day, and this years' Earth Day celebration! Engaging youth is the first step - we are helping them set a course for a lifetime of service and civic engagement!" said Cat Stailey, Member Development and Community Outreach Coordinator of the Wellness Coalition.

During the Earth Day celebration at Penny Park, this year The Wellness Coalition, Single Socks Thrift Store, Monsoon Puppets, The Walking Accessibility Advocacy Group and The Bicycle Advocacy Group joined together to provide youth activities all day long at the Earth Day Celebration in Penny Park. Families came to the pavilion behind the ampitheater to build sock puppets out of recyclable materials. Throughout the day our table was visited by children and families of all ages - 50 people in all created "litter bugs" in our "litter bug laboratory".
