Welcome to New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism

The indigenous communities of North America and New Mexico have even longer traditions of community-centered social structures and inter-generational responsibility. Democratic participation and civic engagement provide the foundation and framework for our nation’s political values. A more active and engaged citizenry remains both a goal and a source of pride for our country and our state.

The Center for Philanthropic Partnerships

"True Partnerships are about shared agendas as well as combined resources, risks, and rewards.  They are voluntary collaborations that build on the respective strengths and core competencies of each partner, optimize the allocation of resources and achieve mutually beneficial results over a sustained period.  They imply linkages that increase resources, scale and impact."

Overview

The Center for Philanthropic Partnerships “CPP” serves to foster social innovation, strategic collaboration and fund partnerships that align the priorities of the State government, local, state and regional social profits and national foundations.

The CPP will impact our state’s most vulnerable communities by leveraging resources of all sectors and creating an underlying system that supports the economic and social viability of all New Mexicans.

Through W.K. Kellogg Foundation funding, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, New Mexico Children’s Cabinet and Albuquerque Community Foundation partnered to create the CPP. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation supports children, families, and communities as they strengthen and create conditions that propel vulnerable children to achieve success as individuals and as contributors to the larger community and society.

Similarly, the work of the CPP will focus on early childhood education, food insecurity, family economic success and youth engagement among other social issues.

The CPP priorities ensure:

  • Children are healthy, educated, safe, supported and involved
  • New Mexicans of all ages have the opportunity to be self-sufficient and reach their full potential
  • Citizens engage their communities

The CPP activities include:

  • Leveraging known successful models within social service and other fields with financial and other resources, and distilling outcomes into best practices
  • Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of State programs and initiatives by leveraging private resources
  • Creating a symposium for national funders to interface with the Lieutenant Governor in order to develop solutions and new initiatives, bolster access between sectors, and share best practices and new models

Creating sustainability through collaboration with policymakers

Policy work is a valuable tool for lasting, positive social change.  The CPP will share best practices and successful models with policymakers, keeping legislators well informed and encouraging systemic solutions.

Focusing on the results, or priorities, that we want to achieve as a nation for children and families is an approach to developing priorities that can be easily understood and embraced by both policymakers and the general public.

Policy priorities based on evidence about achieving results then drive decisions about specific policy options, programs, practices and investment of taxpayer dollars.
